A Sign for Happiness

Sometimes it's important to show people how special you truly think they are.

This week my sweet daughter, Lola, finished up school in San Francisco.  This was a happy and sad occasion for me.  I am excited for the adventures that await us in Colorado (I can't believe that we are moving in less than two weeks!) but I am sad to see Lola leave behind the amazing community that she has become a part of at her nursery school.  I wanted to help Lola create something for her teacher, Kristi, that truly expressed how appreciative we all are of everything she's done for Lola over the past year.  She has provided an incredible environment for our daughter to learn and play. Everyday was filled with laughter and creativity.  We feel so lucky to have found such a happy place.

I saw this sign on Pinterest a few weeks ago and have been wanting to use it as a jumping point for a project I could take on with Lola. I felt like this was the perfect way for us to convey just how special the school has been for us.

I gave my little artist a blank canvas and asked her to cover it completely with paint.  This is a task she takes very seriously.  Once she was finished, we let her masterpiece dry overnight.

I then found a pack of foam letters at Target to help complete our masterpiece.  Lola had a great time spreading the letters out on the table and picking out the right ones for our canvas.

Hydration break :)
Though the letters had peel-off backs and in theory could have been attached directly to the canvas, we secured them in place with a little hot glue.

When I look at this sign I can't help but smile.   I think once we get settled a bit in Colorado, I might help Lola make another one of these signs for our play room, in hopes that this new room will become yet another "happy place" for this little lady and her side kick sister.

Enjoy your weekend.

  1. The sign is beautiful- I love it!!!!! What a great gift. I also love how Lola was able to paint so delicately;-) There is no way my boys can come anywhere close to paint with their clothes on!!! Great work Lola!
