Handmade coasters are simple, inexpensive and can add a personal touch to your house. You can make them with fabric, decorative paper, newspaper or even wrapping paper.
I personally have been loving all kinds of maps lately so I decided to make coasters with cities that are important to my family.
I gathered my supplies:
- White Tiles (Home Depot $.16)
- Vinyl Bumpers (You could also use felt cut to the size of the tile.)
- Mode Podge
- Maps (picked mine up for free at AAA)
- Clear Sealant
- Ruler
- Exacto Knife and/or Scissors
I selected the cities that were special to my family. The places that I selected included: where we got engaged, where we were married our first home and cities our children were born. I then cut out the cities into a square with an exact knife. (I would highly recommend using an exact knife and ruler. I tried using scissors and my lines were not straight.)
I glued down the maps onto the tiles using Mod Podge and let them dry overnight.
I added the bumpers to the tiles and sealed with a water resistant sealant.
I am so happy with how they turned out and I think they are going to be great conversation pieces. I can't wait to start using them!
Hope you had a great weekend.
xoxo
